Tomus

Music theory through short games: a native iOS product taken from zero to paying users.

MVP in ~1 month; monetization work increased profit by 31%.

Still live on iOS; my founder involvement continues beyond the career period above.

From zero to release

I owned the product vision, learning design, roadmap, monetization and launch. We shipped the MVP in approximately one month, launched internationally and acquired the first paying users shortly after release. The central product choice was to make music learning something a person could practise in short sessions.

A learning loop with a starting point

The current app separates music theory, sight reading, ear training, rhythm and music outlook. Optional placement tests set a starting level for each area. Levels change the material, not just a badge: note-reading begins with treble clef and later introduces bass clef and a wider range of notes. Daily Jam selects exercises at the learner’s level and weights the areas chosen during onboarding.

Monetization

I worked on the freemium model, trial, paywall and weekly and annual subscriptions. Monetization work increased Tomus profit by 31%, as recorded in my CV. The surviving source does not specify the measurement window or baseline, so this result is not presented as revenue growth, an A/B-test lift or a year-over-year figure.

The product today

Tomus remains available in the App Store. Its website now complements the app with music-theory explanations, reference pages and browser tools. The end of the June 2023–September 2024 career entry is not the end of the product.
