Chief Product Officer

HyperSpace

Turning around an AI marketplace whose roadmap could not reach users.

Constraint

Weak retention and unpredictable delivery

Key decisions

Treat product clarity and delivery reliability as one problem rather than two sequential ones. A better roadmap does not help if the team cannot ship it predictably, so both had to move at the same time.

Outcome

Retention curve AUC 13% → 26%

Context

HyperSpace is an AI marketplace covering chatbots, images, text, voice, music and related capabilities — a broad surface with a lot of possible directions and limited signal about which ones mattered.

I joined as Chief Product Officer in September 2024, with the product already struggling.

The constraint

Retention was weak, the product direction was unclear, and development delivery was unreliable. The AI functionality needed to be relaunched with better product framing.

These reinforced each other. Unreliable delivery meant the roadmap was not a real statement about the future, which made prioritisation arguments unresolvable, which made the direction drift further.

My role

As CPO I owned product direction and the roadmap, led the UX redesign, supported the reorganisation of the technical team, and drove the relaunch of AI-powered functionality.

Key decisions

Treat product clarity and delivery reliability as one problem rather than two sequential ones. A better roadmap does not help if the team cannot ship it predictably, so both had to move at the same time.

Relaunch the AI functionality with a clearer product frame rather than continuing to extend it — the issue was what the features were for, not only how they worked.

What changed

Rebuilt product direction and the roadmap.

Led a UX redesign of the core experience.

Improved development reliability and supported reorganising the technical team.

Relaunched AI-powered functionality.

Result

Retention curve AUC increased from approximately 13% to 26%.

What I took from it

Turnarounds need product clarity and delivery reliability at the same time. A better roadmap does not help if the team cannot ship it predictably.

If this looks like the problem in front of you, I am happy to talk it through.
